Access Key

Your Access Key or Encryption Key is a long password or pass phrase you chose to secure your computer information. The Key is very important because if you lose it and your computer we can not help you retrieve your information.

You do not need your Key if you are restoring a small amount of data to the same computer that Godmother is on (say you deleted something inadvertently). We suggest you find somewhere safe and away from your computer to store the key. There is an Escrow service available to help you with this if you want.

If you lose your whole computer but have your access key we have all your data.

Encryption/Encrypted

Encryption is the term used for the process of turning information into a secret code. There are many types of encryption. Godmother uses very strong encryption to protect your information. It is so strong that if you lose your Encryption Key we can't help you retrieve your data.

Escrow Service

Godmother has made arrangements with APPS Global Pty Ltd to act as an escrow service for Access Key's of Godmother clients. An escrow service is an entity (usually a company) that acts as an independent third party to hold valuable goods in trust. At your option, APPS Global will hold a sealed password on your behalf as long as you continue to use the Godmother service. Perhaps it may be a few years before you need to ask Godmother to retrieve all your information and by then you could have forgotten your Key but if you have placed it in Escrow it will be available.

Requirements (Minimum)

Godmother has been designed to work with Windows XP computers that are connected to the internet via a broadband connection. We recommend that your computer has 1Mb of RAM and 5Gb of free space and that your internet connection is at least 512Kbps. If all this means nothing to you call us (1300 791 611) and we will help make sense of it.

Monitor (Godmother)

The Godmother Monitor is an information screen that you can easily access once you have Godmother installed on your system. The Godmother Monitor will tell you when your last backup occurred, how much data you have backed up and it will signal any issues the backup may have and even suggest actions to fix any issues.

Server

A server is a computer whose main purpose is to hold/store files for other computers.
